Visitors to Hull were left in no doubt that the city is the ideal tourist destination when Triple World Champion Town Crier, Michael Wood, was found shouting Hull’s praises as passengers arrived into the city's Paragon Interchange.
The loud welcome was all part of a new working relationship between Hull Trains and Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY). The partnership has already seen over 50,000 pieces of literature - mail outs, magazine inserts and station leaflets - distributed in an effort to attract visitors to the region. In addition, station and on-train posters will be produced, an internet campaign launched and a competition held to raise further awareness of the region as a leading visitor destination.
With the region offering a host of business, leisure, retail and tourism opportunities, Hull Trains felt that the time was right to start shouting about what a great place the region is.
David Townend, Hull Trains’ sales and marketing manager, said: “There is always a warm welcome awaiting people in the region and the Town Crier’s pronouncement emphasised that. We have something special here and we want to do what we can to draw attention to the fact that leisure and business tourism should come to the area.”
The morning marked the official launch of a working partnership between Hull Trains and VHEY.
Mr Townend added: “We are obvious partners in a drive to increase visitor numbers and we will work hard to ensure that the region gets the success that it deserves and that we are a destination that is at the top of everyone’s list.”
